I was reading an article the other day about the singer Christina Aguilera and I noticed the editor spelled her name Xtina instead of Christina. What is with the X in place of Christ. This country was built on christianity, so as Christians we should be proud of our religion and not X it out. You never see Muslims, Buddist, or Satanist X-out their religion. In my opinion, using X instead of Christ is either stating that the religion is questionable or shows signs of people being too lazy to spell the word "Christ" out. Christmas has become so commercial these days that people are forgetting the true meaning of the season.
We are suppose to be celebrating the life and death of Jesus Christ, not Jesus X. Don't get me wrong, I love giving and receiving gifts, too. This is the year we drop the X and start back spelling out the name Christ, because Christianity is a word that should be completely spelled out!!! Some things should just be left alone!
I agree! Where the heck did "x" come from anyways? I see no similarity between the two!
ReplyDeletei totally agree as well. where did we get the x from. we should not be ashamed of the creator. Christianity is the foundation of what our country is build upon.
ReplyDeleteYes Christ should always be in Christmas. Once I was writing on a tag, I did not have a lot of room to write so I wrote Xmas. I felt so guilty, I had to squeeze in Christmas. It is Jesus's birthday afterall. If everyone only thought like us...
ReplyDeleteActually, America was NOT built on Christianity. In fact, America was populated by people wanting to worship in their own ways. Sure, some of them were Christian, but not all. The 1st Amendment guarantees that we can worship free of political interference, but also guarantees that our politics are free from religion.
ReplyDeleteIn addition, the founding "fathers" were not, strictly speaking, Christians. Ben Franklin was pretty much an atheist, for example, and Thomas Jefferson was a deist. Many of the other signers of the Declaration were not affiliated with any organized religion.

Yeah, I really do not understand the X thing myself. I have seen it written like that several times, but have never actually put any thought towards why people started spelling it that way.
